We have had some spooktacular entries from children so far for Young Writers latest competition, that of creating a spooky story. All entries have been submitted to Young Writers and we hope some of our entries will make it to be published in their new book! The effort of each entry has been brilliant to see, including, in some cases, a design of the book itself! Younger children have also had a great time reading for pleasure at home, including going on a book scavenger hunt with their families!

What an INCREDIBLE job our inaugural Lapworth Poetry Slam team did! At Coventry Central Hall, they did themselves and the school proud by performing their independently written, memorised piece: 'Refugees from Across the Seas.'

Years 5 & 6 were delighted to be a part of a live BBC lesson in association with Premier League Primary Stars and the National Literacy Trust, a cross-curricular session focusing all about mental health and wellbeing, including positive affirmations, supportive phrases, acts of kindness and more.

What a pleasure it was to welcome Coventry 21-23 Poet Laureate Emilie Lauren Jones to our school for World Book Day! She taught children about poetry slams (of which a team will attend the regional final), and, with the rest of the school, provided fantastic oracy and culutral capital opportunities, focusing on the topic of 'Refuge' as a topic for performance poetry.

World Book Day

It wouldn't be World Book Day without us showcasing our favourite book characters in the form of fancy dress! This was just part of our celebrations of the 26th annual World Book Day that saw a range of activities take place on the day, including the teachers spending time in different year groups to read a very special story time to each class and live interactive workshops with authors, including a live broadcast on the BBC!

We have been fortunate to have published authors visit our school for World Book Day activities, including Luke Temple and Emilie Lauren Jones. We were also treated to a very special live performance of Rudyard Kipling's classic children's tale The Jungle Book. All of these events promote our love of reading and demonstrate that getting immersed in a world of fiction (and non-fiction too!) is paramount to a child enjoying their learning experiences at our school.

 National Storytelling Week

We have celebrated National Storytelling Week, keeping up our daily shared reading with the children in class, as well as sharing in assembly about the importance of storytelling in both delivery and listening.

Tanya Landman

KS2 were thrilled to be joined by bestselling children's author Tanya Landman, who joined us virtually to discuss how new book Midwinter Burning and take some questions from the children about her stories, her life and what it takes to be a successful author.
