Teachers at Lapworth C.E. Primary School are assessing children all of the time, constantly considering how well they have understood their learning and what the next steps are. This is achieved through a combination of formative (on-going) and summative (test-based) strategies.
We use a system called STAT Sheffield to support our on-going formative assessment.
Teachers use assessment grids to assess reading, writing, Spelling & Grammar and mathematics.
Teachers talk to the children about their next steps (in an age appropriate way) so that they know what their next steps are in their learning.
Assessment information for each child is monitored regularly and children’s progress is discussed regularly through the year with school leaders.
Children’s attainment and progress is shared with parents and carers at parents’ evenings with a written report in the summer.
