Summer 2 Week 2

On Friday your child brought home a phonics newsletter linked to the phonic sounds we are practising through our new phonics scheme "Supersonic Phonic Heroes'. The children are enjoying this new approach.

You may have noticed a number of stickers with phonic sounds on. It will help to support your child's phonic development if you will ask them about these sounds.

How you can support our supersonic phonic heroes at home:

  • discus and look at the sounds on the sheet. Look for the sounds in your daily reading or out and about in the community (signs etc).
  • Practice using the sounds (graphemes) by writing silly sentences. They do not need to make sense but try to use these sounds correctly.
  • Use the choose to use rule

Write with both spellings, have a good look and see.

Which one looks like the right spelling for me?

  • There are also some tricky words to practise reading - explore the unusual spellings and may practice writing them.

We have also sent home a sheet containing words from the year 1 Common Exception Word List that your child has not quite mastered. (A few who have mastered these words have a few from the year 2 word list.) Please support your child by practising these words at home or on the move in any fun or creative way you like.

Learning without limits nurtured by Christian Values
