The way we allocate reading books to children up the school has changed. We have been really busy and have levelled all the group and individual class readers in school, as well as purchasing many exciting new texts. The books now go right up to a level 6 (which is equivalent to GCSE grade C). This means that we can ensure that every child can take home and read books at school that are age appropriate and suitably challenging. Your child will be given a reading book to take home and I would like them to read their book at least 3 times a week. Please could you encourage your child to finish a book rather than changing it every few weeks without ever completing a novel.
Ideally we would like the children once they have completed their book to change it for another on Mondays or Fridays so that staff are available to supervise this.
The children seem to like the way that the reading material in school is now structured and the new books have gone down well. We hope this will encourage children to continue a love of reading and find authors and stories that they can enthuse about.
If you have any questions about the way that reading is structured at school please feel free to ask.
