L.I. To be able to identify and describe key geographical features of the United Kingdom.
Use the PowerPoint to guide you through the following questions and activities:
- How would you describe the United Kingdom to someone who didn't know anything about it?
- What information could you tell them? Make some notes.
- Go through the multiple choice questions on the slides. Do any of the answers surprise you?
- Look at the world map on slide 15. How could you describe where the UK is, in relation to other countries, as well as seas and oceans?
Choose one of the following activities:
Red task
On the worksheet, label the countries of the UK and their capital cities. When finished, use books and/or the internet to find the answers to the questions on the extension sheet.
Amber task
On the worksheet, label the countries of the UK and their capital cities. When finished, use books and/or the internet to find the answers to the questions on the extension sheet.
Green task
On the worksheet, label the countries of the UK, their capital cities and islands, e.g. Isle of Man. When finished, use books and/or the internet to find the answers to the questions on the extension sheet.
Challenge
Use the domino cards to match up the facts with the statistics.
Ideas to think about before next week's session:
Look at the Union Jack flag on Slides 18 and 19. How does it represent the joining together of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales?
