Reading

All children across the school are given reading books that meet and challenge their individual needs. We track the books that they read to ensure that the children are reading a range of text types and authors. Every child can take home and reading book and will also have a suitably challenging book to read as part of a group in class.

I would like each child to read their book at least twice a week for approx. 20 min at a time. Children may read their book more frequently or can supplement their reading with some texts of their own. However it is important that each child reads books that are pitched correctly and therefore can I ask that the  books selected from home  are ideally ones that meet your child's needs. Please could you encourage your child to finish a book rather than changing it every few weeks without ever completing a novel.

We hope this will encourage children to continue a love of reading and find authors and stories that they can enthuse about. Ideally we would like the children once they have completed their book to change it for another on Mondays or Fridays so that staff are available to supervise this.

If you have any questions about the way that reading is structured at school please feel free to ask.
